On July 25, 2024, NYHealth hosted a webinar on telehealth policies and recommendations in New York State.

Telehealth use spiked during the COVID-19 pandemic, facilitated by state and federal policy changes. Before and throughout the pandemic, New York State enacted several temporary measures to expand telehealth access. New York removed restrictions on telehealth delivery and broadened its telehealth policies for Medicaid and commercial plans to enable providers to deliver a comprehensive set of virtual health care services in a variety of settings. Although New York has been a national leader in telehealth, opportunities remain to strengthen and enshrine existing policies.

Program Officer Ali Foti hosted a panel discussion with experts on the policies under consideration, explained the effects of these shifting policies on patient care and workforce retention, and shared innovative practices using telehealth. The webinar also featured the release of new policy recommendations from Manatt Health on enhancing equitable access to telehealth for all New Yorkers.

Speakers were:

  • Michael Hasselberg, Chief Digital Health Officer, UR Medicine
  • Jacqueline Marks Smith, Senior Manager, Manatt Health
  • Michelle Savuto, Manager, Manatt Health
  • Mary Zelazny, CEO, Finger Lakes Community Health
