American Cancer Society

A November 2007 public opinion poll found that health care is the number one issue New Yorkers want the State government to address. Consumer Voices for Coverage identifies individuals with personal stories to illustrate consumer problems with the health care system and to put human faces on issues addressed in policy proposals.

Led by the American Cancer Society (ACS), this project educated New Yorkers about health care access and affordability issues as well as added a consumer voice to the State health care reform debate. This created and distributed educational materials that explained issues in simple and accessible terms, published guides to compare health care reform proposals, and delivered presentations to community-based organizations on health reform issues.
