The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people’s lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods, particularly for those who work to improve the health of our communities.
During this difficult time, many organizations across New York State are working tirelessly to keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable. In response, NYHealth is supporting statewide and local efforts to address emerging health care and public health needs in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, NYHealth awarded America’s Warrior Partnership a grant to connect veterans and their families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to essential resources.
Under this grant, America’s Warrior Partnership partnered with Veterans One-stop Center of Western New York to reach veterans, their family members, and caregivers impacted by the pandemic. Using a cloud-based tool developed by America’s Warrior Partnership, local veteran-serving organizations collected information and created reports and dashboards to better understand how to support and meet the needs of veterans in their communities. Veterans were referred to resources and services to assist them, including returning to school, enrolling in benefits, and finding housing and employment. America’s Warrior Partnership also provided outreach and holistic services to veterans and their families, such as virtual programming to combat isolation and emergency assistance programs to support veterans facing short-term financial hardships.
