The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people’s lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods, particularly for those who work to improve the health of our communities.

During this difficult time, many organizations across New York State are working tirelessly to keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable. In response, NYHealth is supporting statewide and local efforts to address emerging health care and public health needs in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, NYHealth awarded the Robin Hood Foundation a grant to ensure access to nutritional, housing, and medical resources for New Yorkers experiencing financial hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under this grant, the Robin Hood Foundation partnered with New York Disaster Interfaith Services and NYC Health + Hospitals to provide cash assistance and case management to New Yorkers who experienced financial hardships and had been treated at H+H facilities for COVID-19. Community health workers and social workers conducted initial outreach and screening to eligible low-income New Yorkers. Patients were then connected with case management services, including cash assistance, referrals to local food resources, and additional medical and housing services.
