DOWNLOADA National Survey of Obesity Prevention Practices in Head Start was published in the December 2009 issue of Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. It describes the results of a survey administered to evaluate the Head Start programs for pre-school children.
The survey’s self-reported results showed that the Head-Start programs surpassed the minimum Federal requirements to support healthy eating habits. These standards included a minimum number of fruits being served to enrolled children, limiting the presence of vending machines, and regulating structured, adult-led physical activity.
