NYHealth grantees are working together with residents and local organizations in Brownsville to increase access to healthy and affordable foods and empower residents through urban farms and gardens, farmers markets, and other nutrition programs.

Brownsville, Brooklyn, is one of six communities that NYHealth is supporting through its Healthy Neighborhoods Fund initiative to become healthier, more active places. Urban in density but rural in its disconnectedness from the rest of New York City, Brownsville is a high-poverty neighborhood that has endeavored to overcome years of disinvestment and improve the overall health and wellbeing of its residents. Watch the video to learn more about these community efforts and the resulting health benefits for residents.
