This study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), sought to identify predictors of uninsurance among U.S. children and adolescents with insured parents.

This cross-sectional study from the nationally representative Medical Expenditure Panel Survey included nearly 40,000 children younger than 19 years of age. The main outcomes were the prevalence of children and adolescents who had at least one insured parent and remained uninsured, and the predictors of uninsurance in this group. Better understanding risk factors of uninsurance and the population of the uninsured can help target programming to expand coverage.
