Ready or Not? Assessing the Capacity of New York State Health Providers to Meet the Needs of Veterans Veterans and Health in New York State Increasing Health Care Providers’ Readiness and Ability to Serve Returning VeteransNew York State is home to the nation’s fifth-largest veteran population and has a landscape as diverse as the people that live here. Nearly 800,000 veterans call the Empire State home, but more than two-thirds of them live outside of New York City, where the majority of resources are concentrated.
On January 8, 2019, NYHealth hosted a conversation with Andrea Goldstein and Roger Misso, two Navy veterans from New York and hosts of the 2 Vets Upstate podcast, for a discussion about the issues that upstate veterans face, resources available to them, and how we can better serve the needs of this community.
The creators of the podcast believe that every veteran, regardless of who they are or where they live, has a story to tell. Started in May 2018 with more than a dozen episodes broadcasted, 2 Vets Upstate serves as a platform to tell those stories, celebrate service, and connect veterans with resources so that they can thrive.
