Nonprofits can play a significant role in advancing policy at the city and state levels. Perhaps now more than ever, it is critically important that nonprofits advocate effectively on issues to help shape the debate and bring about lasting, systemic change.

The Advocacy Institute (AI) supports the legislative advocacy of social justice and movement-building organizations in New York City and State. AI delivers trainings and tools, builds collaborative networks, and develops leadership to win legislative campaigns on issues ranging from protecting immigrant workers’ rights to advancing environmental justice. Together with the more than 250 organizers in New York that use its resources, AI has been supporting a community of activists and advocates to get their voices heard.

Please join NYHealth for a conversation with AI’s co-founders and co-directors Maggie Williams and James Schaffer. They will provide an overview of AI’s innovative work; describe successes and challenges they’ve experienced supporting nonprofits’ advocacy efforts at the City and State levels; and share their plans for 2018.
