The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people’s lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods, particularly for those who work to improve the health of our communities.
During this difficult time, many organizations across New York State are working tirelessly to keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable. In response, NYHealth is supporting statewide and local efforts to address emerging health care and public health needs in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, NYHealth awarded the Community Service Society of New York (CSS) a grant to help New Yorkers enroll in health insurance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under this grant, CSS provided rapid-response assistance to community-based organizations serving New Yorkers in communities hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. CSS supported these organizations in their efforts to enroll New Yorkers in health insurance coverage during the COVID-19 crisis. CSS also helped the community-based organizations to assist New Yorkers with other health-related issues, such as addressing medical bills, accessing health care, and ensuring food security. Additionally, CSS increased its capacity to operate its own statewide helpline to provide direct consumer assistance.
