South Ozone Park, Queens is a low-income, medically underserved community.
The shortage of primary care options has been exacerbated by the recent closure of three local hospitals where many of the area’s uninsured residents sought routine care. The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center, Inc. (Addabbo) established a new site for primary care in South Ozone Park as a part of its network of Federally Qualified Health Centers.
The identified South Ozone Park facility has the capacity to serve 15,000 patients annually. With NYHealth support, Addabbo renovated the site, consolidated primary care services, and ultimately operated the facility at full capacity.
