The New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians (NYACP) has worked closely with the NYHealth Diabetes Campaign and other clinical partners to assist its members in achieving recognition under the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Diabetes Recognition Program.
NYACP met its primary target of engaging 50 internists—who collectively serve more than 10,000 New Yorkers with diabetes—and assisted physicians with applying for NCQA certification. Through the creation and promotion of webinars and papers on diabetes management and improvement of diabetes care, the diabetes advisory group of NYACP sought to leverage training resources to advance diabetes quality improvement efforts among its membership. Now entering into the final year of the NYHealth Diabetes Campaign, the main activities and objectives for the renewal grant were to:
- use its statewide infrastructure to promote the Campaign;
- recruit and engage physicians to work toward improving diabetes care;
- disseminate information to help its members achieve excellence in diabetes care; and
- provide hands-on technical assistance to at least 40 physicians to help them attain NCQA diabetes recognition.
