More than 1 million individuals have enrolled in public and private coverage through NY State of Health, the State’s official health plan Marketplace. However, more than 1 million New Yorkers still remain uninsured.
Additionally, all those who previously enrolled through the Marketplace must successfully renew their coverage to avoid tax penalties. For health reform to be a continued success, it is crucial that consumers understand the complicated law, are satisfied with their coverage, and remain covered. To build momentum and public attention of the upcoming open enrollment period, NYHealth awarded Nielsen Consumer Insights, Inc., a grant to design and implement a survey on New Yorkers’ experiences with the Marketplace.
Under this grant, Nielsen conducted an online survey of individuals in New York State who purchased insurance through the Marketplace or acquired Medicaid under health reform. The survey focused on New Yorkers who have gained health insurance coverage and provide insight on their satisfaction with coverage, ability to access care, and likelihood to renew or recommend their coverage. Specifically, Nielson designed the questionnaire with guidance from NYHealth; conducted the survey; and collected and processed the data. When the survey was completed, NYHealth analyzed and disseminated the results.
